Heritage artifact tracking system

An RFID and e-signature based inventory and tracking system for cultural assets.

Role
Sole developer
Stack
.NET, Oracle, RFID, e-signature

A system that digitised the inventory of cultural assets in the palace collections and tracks their movements. Artifacts are identified with RFID tags; counts, relocations and restoration work are recorded. Critical operations are approved with e-signatures, so every record shows who did what and when.

Key decisions

  • RFID identification: recognising an artifact by scanning its tag makes counts and relocation records both faster and more accurate than writing them by hand.
  • E-signature approval: critical operations are approved with an e-signature, so who did what, and when, is recorded in a way that cannot be denied.
  • A history of every move: besides an artifact's current location, the system keeps where it moved from, where to and why; processes such as restoration become part of its history.

My role: Sole developer: analysis, development, RFID and e-signature integrations, go-live.

Technologies: C#, .NET, SQL Server, Oracle, RFID reader integration, e-signature
